KNPS Annual General Meeting

The 2009 Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 19th at the Kimberley Public Library upstairs meeting room.  We will have a short business meeting from 7:00 to 7:30 to review our annual financial statements and elect the Board of Directors.  At 7:30 biologist Randy Moody will present a slide show entitled: The Tree of Life is Dying: The Whitebark Pine Story.    Following Randy's presentation refreshments will be served and folks can renew their memberships and socialize with friends and fellow KNPS members.   All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Fuel Reduction/Restoration Update

The City of Kimberley is now applying to a provincial fund, held by the Union of B.C. Municipalities, for money to develop treatment prescriptions in the Nature Park. The money will be used to hire consultants that will work with the Nature Park Society to plan fuel reduction work. We will be trying to reduce the fire risk without undo damage to trails, aesthetics and ecosystems. Once prescriptions are developed, there is a second pot of money at the UBCM to fund operational activities. We are hopeful that over the next few years, the City will be able to access many hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding for this process.

Events Update

Snow has been a factor in the last two events of the season, a hike through Moe's Canyon and the annual western larch hike to Dipper Lake and Horse Barn Valley. Prompted by the early taste of winter we have just posted 3 winter events on the Events Page.  Check them out.

With the footing a bit iffy we abandoned plans to hike to Musser's Plateau and did Moe's Canyon instead.

Natural History Committee Update

The next Natural History Committee outing/potluck/meeting will be on Jan. 30th. The outing will likely be on snowshoes with a focus on animal tracks in the Park. For more information call Laura at 427-2600.

We have just added a new set of kiosk posters to both the Park kiosks and the Natural History Page. You can check them out here.
