Nature Park Events and Activities

See Our Winter 2011-12 Event Schedule Below

The Kimberley Nature Park Society organizes and leads a number of special events and activities in the Park throughout the year. This page contains a brief overview of the kinds of events we sponsor and a calendar of the coming year's activities. In addition, the Freewheelers Bike Club and the Kimberley Volksmarch Club schedule events in the Park.

Throughout the year we lead guided walks into the Park. Some are focused
on learning about the natural history of the Park and others are
mainly for recreation and relaxation.

Several times a year our trails committee organizes volunteer work parties
to maintain and improve the trail network. Fresh air, invigorating exercise
and great company make these sessions a lot of fun.

KIMBERLEY NATURE PARK

WINTER 2011-12 GUIDED EVENTS

Whether you are an old timer who knows the park like the back of your hand and just appreciates social occasions in the park or someone new to Kimberley looking for a guided tour, the Nature Park Society has many events for you to enjoy.   Meet others, see new features or get some exercise!

This winter we will be leading snowshoe hikes in December, January and February.  Everyone is welcome but remember that most of our hikes involve some hill climbing. Please dress for the weather, bring a snack and a drink, and don't forget your snowshoes (you can rent them from Rocky's Ski and Snowboard in the Platzl or the Kimberley Alpine Resort).

Tuesday,  December 27 -  Burn off those Christmas calories by snowshoeing  the Romantic Ridge/Boulder Trail loop.  Meet at the Swan Ave. entrance at 10:00 a.m. for this 2-3 hour hike.  Distance about 7 kilometres. Elevation gain/loss about 125 metres (400 ft)

Sunday, January 15th - Hike to the South West Passage viewpoint for beautiful views of the St. Mary River Valley.  Meet at the Riverside Campground at 9:30 a.m. for this 2 1/2- 3 hour snowshoe hike up Jimmy Russell Road, South West Passage and back down Skid Road and Duck Pond Trail.  Distance about 6 kilometres.   Elevation gain/loss 280  metres (900 ft)
